About The Hiking Tour
Mere minutes from the hustle of downtown Portland, the wooded wonderland of Forest Park awaits you. Boasting over 5,200 acres of lush greenery and 70 miles of pristine trails, Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. – and, in my humble opinion, the best!
In this guided tour with a local expert, you’ll hike among a grand display of biodiversity – including majestic Douglas Fir, stunning Bigleaf Maple, whispering Western Hemlock, and mighty Oregon White Oak. Hikers will take in jaw-dropping views of the Cascade mountain range – featuring Mount Hood, Orgeon’s highest peak at 12,500 feet, and the Willamette River that runs through Portland.
Other attractions on our tour include Portland’s storied Witch’s Castle (rich with tragic history) and the historic Pittock Mansion. Outside the Mansion, we’ll stop for a picnic of local goodies, restroom breaks, and plenty of Insta-worthy photo ops before returning to our starting point at Lower Macleay Park.
What to Bring on the Hike:
- Comfortable shoes with good grip: Sneakers, trail runners, or hiking boots.
- Reusable water bottle: Refills of Portland’s delicious tap water are available.
- Weather-appropriate layers: Mornings are cooler than afternoons, and you may want to remove layers as we hike.
- Your sense of adventure!
